FACT Cellular Therapy Accreditation Workshop

The accreditation workshop will begin with an overview of the FACT accreditation process and continue with hands-on activities to guide the applicant through the accreditation process. Applicants will have the opportunity to view a clinical inspection tour and, using a provided inspection checklist, identify specific FACT Standards covered during the tour.  Participants will also review case studies to determine compliance, correct deficiencies, and have the opportunity to listen to transplant programs' accreditation success stories.  Finally, participants will learn how to improve data management through follow-up and discuss corrective action plans to improve outcome analysis.

Overview of FACT Accreditation

Description: Dr. Phyllis I. Warkentin, FACT Chief Medical Officer, will describe the accreditation process from application to accreditation.  She will define common terminology for the accreditation process and explain the function of the accreditation coordinator. Dr. Warkentin will also summarize the inspector's role in the process of accreditation.  The audience will participate in interactive knowledge checks throughout the presentation.

The Key to Compliance Success

Description: Dr. Paul Eldridge will review the entire compliance application process and identify documents required for submission.

Activity: Evaluating Compliance

Description:  Dr. Paul Eldridge will help facilitate case studies. The audience will identify what challenges the program faces after each case. The presenter will poll the audience to determine what standards may not be in compliance.  Ultimately, the presenter, with the help of the audience, will answer how the program can achieve compliance with FACT Standards and continue FACT accreditation.

What to Expect During the Inspection 

 

Description: Dr. Kimberly Kasow, Director, Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Program, Marrow Collections Medical Director at UNC Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program, will review clinical program requirements during a FACT inspection.  She will also list tips and identify strategies to help clinical programs navigate a successful inspection process.

Description: Dr. Joseph Schwartz, Professor, Pathology, Molecular and Cell-Based Medical Director, Transfusion Medicine Quality Assurance, at Mount Sinai Bone Marrow and Transplant Program, will explain the most common challenges in clinical transplant and construct a plan to correct the deficiencies.

Description:  Dr. Nancy Hardy  will summarize the expectations of inspectors and applicants for data management.

4:30 pm 30'   Maintaining FACT Readiness Description:  Federico Rodriguez Quezada, SBB, MLS(ASCP) will discuss a plan to ensure continuous accreditation readiness and will explain the self-assessment process and how to manage turnover so accreditation readiness is maintained.
